Unity and Ubuntu Light, a new shell for netbooks
Posted Under: General
Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Ubuntu just announced Unity and Ubuntu Light, a new shell for netbooks.
Unity is a lightweight netbook interface. It is aimed at full screen applications, wanted to be surfing the web in under 10 seconds, and giving people a fantastic web experience with limited usage model to a full desktop.
The new desktop is focused on maximising screen real estate for content.Compare to traditional desktop environment,Unity moves the bottom panel to the left of the screen, and devotes that to launching and switching between applications. And it will expand that left-hand launcher panel so that it is touch-friendly and make the top panel smarter. For more, see the link in the bottom.

For those that wish to try it out on a netbook, or even a laptop with a wide screen.
Execute following commands in terminal, then log out and select Ubuntu Unity Netbook Edition in session box and back in.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-dx-team/une
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install unity
