Using wireless network, Air Video can stream videos in almost any format to your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. You don’t need to copy your videos to the device just to watch them.

First, need install airvideo-server in Ubuntu. Here’s how I installed Air Video server in Ubuntu 11.04 amd64:

1.) Add this ppa: Ubunu 10.04, 10.10, 11.04) by:

Launch Synaptic Package Manager, navigate to Settings -> Repositories and then add this line under Other Software tab in Software Sources. And finally, click Reload.

deb natty main

Alternatively, just use two commands in terminal:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:rubiojr/airvideo
sudo apt-get update

2.) Now install airvideo-server via Synaptic Package Manager, or use:

sudo apt-get install airvideo-server

It’s recommended to use command line because there I got into missing dependencies problem and they all can be installed by sudo apt-get install PACKAGENAME except libssl1.0.0 downloaded from here

3.) After installation, launch AirVideo Server and you should see an icon in system tray area(Ubuntu 11.04 Unity may need enable System Tray Notification, search it on google). Right-click on it to select start or stop server.

To change Airvideo Server settings, edit /opt/airvideo-server/ with root permission:

sudo gedit /opt/airvideo-server/

Now, in iPad/iPhone app store install Air Video and then add this server and enjoy movies!
