Install or Upgrade to the latest version of Opera in Ubuntu:

If you’re running an old version of Opera web browser, note that first backup your browsing data and bookmarks.

There’re 3 ways installing latest stable version of Opera in Ubuntu:

Option 1:

Download source code of Opera from opera’s download page. Extract the package and follow the instructions in INSTALL or README file to install opera in your machine.

Option 2:

Install Opera via opera stable ppa

Open up a terminwl window, add the ppa by:

sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ stable non-free" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera.list'

Add the key:

sudo sh -c 'wget -O - http://deb.opera.com/archive.key | apt-key add -'

Now update the source and install Opera:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install opera

and install the recommended flash plugin:

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Option 3:

Directly download .deb package of the latest stable Opera from deb.opera.com and double-click to start installation.
