PlayOnLinux is a piece of sofware which allows you to easily install and use numerous games and softwares designed to run with Microsoft’s Windows such as WarcraftIII,World of Warcraft,The Age of Kings,AutoCAD,IE,and so forth.
Few games are compatible with GNU/Linux at the moment and it certainly is a factor preventing the migration to this system. PlayOnLinux brings an accessible and efficient solution to this problem, cost-free and rescpetful of the free softwares.
PlayOnLinux’s features
Here is a non-exhaustive list of the interesting points to know:

* You don’t have to own a Windows® license to use PlayOnLinux.
* PlayOnLinux is based on Wine, and so profits from all its possibilities yet it keeps the user away from its complexity while exploiting some of its advanced functions.
* PlayOnLinux is a free software.
* PlayOnLinux uses Bash and Python

Nevertheless, PlayOnLinux has some defects, as every piece of software:

* Occasional performances decrease (image may be less fluid and graphics less detailed).
* Not all games are supported. Nevertheless, you can use our manual installation module.

Nice post. I have run some games in linux using wine/playonlinux. World of warcraft is a total success left 4 dead was good at lower settings using the steam luncher/games manager thingy. For some reason I am unable to install games from the original CDs/DVDs using play on linux. Maybe I’m doing something wrong don’t know. Will keep trying though because it is a real pain having to download all the game clients and using steam to download games such as left 4 dead. Play on linux is looking the clear winner for those who want to play windows games on linux.

Just a little question: Is it possible to play GTA IV on Ubuntu using PlayOnLinux?
