Comments on: Install VLC media player 1.0 on ubuntu 9.04

I cannot install vlc player in ubuntu 9.0. when i tried these commands in terminal i got “Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
E: Couldn’t find package vlc”
But i have downloaded the package of this vlc player. though it shows error message like this! In such a case what am i supposed to do? Can you please help me with your sugggestions admin?

after executing key command getting conflicting error..
and after executing update command.. getting 404 error

After running the command to get update I started to receive err http://us.archive.ubuntu.com.. and W: Failed to fetch.. 404 Not Found

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Then when I try to run command to get install it ‘couldn’t find the package’

when using this command error occurs
sudo apt-key adv –recv-keys –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 7613768D

I have the installation file of VLC on a flash disk but it won’t exectue like any installtion that occurs in Windows. How can i install it? Please help

just use following commands to get the key
gpg –keyserver subkeys.pgp.net –recv D739676F7613768D
gpg –export –armor D739676F7613768D | sudo apt-key add –

change the D73967…. to 71346C8340130828

hi when i did as u said earlier to install vlc 1.0.0 i got an error saying
W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net hardy Release: The following signatures couldn’t be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 71346C8340130828

what to do???? plz suggest..
