This is a simple guide about installing SopCast in Ubuntu 12.04 from the official website. Works are being done in terminal, you need to know a little about Linux command.

UPDATE: SopCast Player can be easily installed from ppa:ferramroberto/sopcast. Just open up a terminal window and run following commands one by one. Sopcast will be installed on Ubuntu 12.10, 12.04, 11.10, 11.04, 10.10, and 10.04:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/sopcast

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install sopcast-player

1. Download ‘sopcast for Linux’ the sopcast.tgz from

Extract the package, copy and paste ‘sp-sc-auth’ file into ‘/usr/bin/sp-sc’ and ‘usr/local/bin/sp-sc’

sudo cp ~/Downloads/sp-auth/sp-sc-auth /usr/bin/sp-sc
sudo cp ~/Downloads/sp-auth/sp-sc-auth /usr/local/bin/sp-sc

2. Check if step1 is working by running sp-sc and it should output as below (64-bit Ubuntu first install sudo apt-get install ia32-libs ):

~$ sp-sc
SC Version: 3.2.6 Build time: 2009-11-09 15:09
./sp-sc [-TpI] [-b ipaddr] [-u username:password] [-n out:total]

If not, download stdc++5 extract ‘libstdcpp5.tgz’, and then run:

sudo cp -a ~/Downloads/usr/lib/* /usr/lib/

3. Add Medibuntu’ repository to Ubuntu.

4. Finally download and install the UI front-end.

Download sopcast player here. Under its extracted directory(cd ~/Downloads/sopcast-player*), run following commands to install it:

sudo make install
