i installed using hardware drivers and everytime i restart my ubuntu 9.10, it shows 800x600 resolution which is far lower than my original 1280x1024. The special effects still work though. Somebody know the solution? I have a NVIDIA 8400 GS NX84GS series card.

(Cont. from previous post) Forgot to say also. It wouldn't boot fully after first plugging in the card before I was able to install the driver. Booted fine second time after restart.

Thanks alot for this advice. I'm running Zorin OS2 (which is Karmic with extra codecs/features etc - very good system). I managed to get envyNG QT. Its on Softpedia and installed it via synaptic so as to deal with the dependencies.
I've just used it to perfectly install an old but unused Nvidia GeforceFX 5200 on my 2.8GHz 500 Mb RAM PC.

Great stuff!

Ubuntu Wiki said,Envy does not automatically update itself when new upstream drivers are released.but all that's required is to update the version of the driver in envy and set the new md5 of the installer.
