I have written a simple tutorial about how to change Plymouth splash screen in Ubuntu. However, there are only few themes in the default repository.

MIB-Ubuntu Plymouth theme is a beautiful theme based on Mandriva 2010.1 plymouth theme.

MIB-Ubuntu can be download at the right of this page : MIB-Ubuntu-Plymouth-Themes-170195920

Then,we can follow these steps to install and apply the theme:

1.Extract the downloaded .zip file and use this command to copy and paste it into /lib/plymouth/themes:

sudo cp -R Downloads/MIB-Ubuntu/ /lib/plymouth/themes/

If you’re not comfortable with the command line, you can run sudo nautilus command to open file browser with super privilege and do this copy and paste thing.

2.Now,run this command to install this MIB-Ubuntu Plymouth theme:

sudo update-alternatives --install /lib/plymouth/themes/default.plymouth default.plymouth /lib/plymouth/themes/MIB-Ubuntu/MIB-Ubuntu.plymouth 100

3.Use following command to list all currently installed themes and input the number of the theme that you want to use.

sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth

Finally, run the command to apply the change:

sudo update-initramfs -u

Now,you can reboot and see the new Plymouth splash screen!
