Cinnamon 2.0 has been released just a few hours ago. It will be in will be in Linux Mint 16 “Petra”. Here’s how to install / upgrade in Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 12.10, Linux Mint 13/14/15 using the unofficial PPA repository.

What’s New in Cinnamon 2.0:

  • Windows can now be tiled to 4 corners and resized
  • Edge-Snapping inspired by the Snap functionality of Xbox One
  • Cinnamon is now able to play sounds when you perform common events such as closing windows, switching workspaces etc…

Install Cinnamon 2.0 via PPA:

To get started, press Ctrl+ALt+T on your keyboard to open terminal. Then run below commands to add the PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable

Then update package lists and start upgrading process:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Or install Cinnamon Desktop:

sudo apt-get install cinnamon
