Adobe Reader, acroread finally is available in the Canonical Partners repository for Ubuntu 13.04 Raring. This simple tutorial will show you how to install the Adobe Reader and set it as default PDF reader.

To get started, go to System Settings-> Software & Updates, on the Other Software tab, check the “Canonical Partners”:

enable-canonical-partners-repository

After enabled the partners repository, update app repository by this command in terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T):

sudo apt-get update

Now, we’re able to install Adobe Reader via this command:

sudo apt-get install acroread

To set default PDF reader:

While installing acroread with the previous command, you’ll be prompt to set Adobe Reader as the default PDF reader:

adobe-reader-set-default

If not, edit the file “/etc/gnome/defaults.list” by this command:

sudo gedit /etc/gnome/defaults.list

Then add following lines in the end:

application/fdf=acroread.desktop
application/xdp=acroread.desktop
application/xfdf=acroread.desktop
application/pdf=acroread.desktop
application/pdx=acroread.desktop
