In a fresh installed or upgraded Ubuntu, first thing to do is install flash plugin for web browser to enjoy flash videos. As a beginner, we use Ubuntu Software Center to search and install applications.

In Ubuntu 11.10, the Ubuntu Software Center shows two: Adobe Flash Plugin 10 and Adobe Flash Plugin. I selected Adobe Flash Plugin 10. But after installation, both Firefox and Google Chrome were still not working, even there’s no adobe flash plugin showing in about:plugins page.

May be the second choice work, I didn’t try. I finally use the following method get the flash working in my 64-bit Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric:

First, in a terminal window remove old, unnecessary packages:

sudo apt-get remove --purge adobe-flashplugin flashplugin* nspluginwrapper

Reinstall the flash:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall adobe-flashplugin

Now, restart your browser and it should work.
