Howto Fix full-screen Flash doesn’t work in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick

If you’re running on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick and could not get Youtube, hulu flash to work on full-screen mode on Chromium, Firefox, or other web browsers. You can try following codes in Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal to fix this problem.

sudo mkdir /etc/adobe
sudo su
sudo echo \"OverrideGPUValidation = 1\" >> /etc/adobe/mms.cfg

It is said that the problem has something to do with flash having hardware acceleration enabled, and it is always present on older computers, specially with laptops using Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset!

No point in the “sudo su”.
It’s not recommended that newbs use that command, especially as the code here doesn’t seem to do anything to get you OUT of root prompt…

I suggest you remove that line, it’s dangerous and it should work without it just as well…

The sudo su is needed because the /etc/adobe directory we’ve just created is owned by root, and you can’t redirect the output of echo to a file in this location with >> unless you’re root.

What you don’t need is any sudo after you’ve become root with su, so you could save a couple of letters’ typing by executing sudo su first, and then not using sudo for the other two commands.

Hey this is cool … I would say solves the issue .. but I still see some flickers and visible frame changes .. what is it exactly doing ?.

Worked for me with Nvidia GTS250 and Ubuntu 11.04 Natty. type ‘exit’ when done in terminal to get out of root access mode, Otherwise terminal says it is still running a process.

worked for the most part, theres not as much broken images/freezing, but all full screen vids are in black and white! could it be something to do with the fact that i exited terminal while it said “process still running” ??
(‘exit’ didnt seem to work to get me out of root access mode)
