The audacity audio editor has reached version 2.0.2. Audacity in Ubuntu Software Center is a little old, and you may not get the latest version from official update. One way to get audacity and keep it up-to-date is using its Daily Build PPA. For now it supports Ubuntu 12.10, 12.04, 11.10 and 11.04.

First launch a terminal window from the dash home or press Ctrl+Alt+T. Add Audacity Daily Build PPA by pasting following command in terminal and hit enter:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:audacity-team/daily

Then update your system and install audacity via:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install audacity

That’s it!
