How to install and set up Avant Window Navigator

Avant Window Navigator is a dock-like window navigator sits at the bottom of the desktop,it can make your ubuntu much more friendly.

I will tell you how to install and set it in ubuntu 8.10 easily

First open Synaptic Package Manager by going to System–>Administration–>Synaptic Package Manager

type “avant-window-navigator” in the quick search field, scroll to find it and right click to mark,then click Apply to install.

do same to the “awn-applets-python-extras“,”awn-applets-c-extras

close the window after all packages installed.

Now start it by going to Application–>Accessories–>Avant Window Navigator

at the bottom of the screen you will see

click “Awn Manager”,and set in General as you prefer

For 3D view,go to General –>Bar Appearance and set like this:

And add launchers:

Change the theme by clicking Themes –>Add(if you have download themes by searching “themes for AWN”),then click Apply

    Thanks to you & your tips, I am thoroughly enjoying Ubuntu much more than Windows 7 :) I really love your site & hope you’ll keep posting more tips for us Ubuntu newbies. You have helped me A LOT.

    & don’t give a flying fuck about what people are saying about your English. English is a hard language to learn. They’re probably pissed cuz’ mommy’s making them pay $rent$ for the basement they’ve lived under for 26 years ;)
