Whenever you move the cursor over an icon on Gnome panel or menu, a little box pops up with text saying the same thing as what you’re about to click on. This mouse-over text boxes are called “tooltips”, and for some it might be annoying. So this quick tutorial shows how to disable the tooltips in Gnome panels and menus.
1. Press Alt+F2 key combination to bring up the Run Applications box.
2. Type in
gconf-editor and click Run, it opens Gnome configuration editor.
3. Navigate to
/apps/panel/global/, and uncheck “tooltips_enabled” in right.
