I installed cairo-dock, gnome-shell, gnome-shell-fallback, and Linux Mint Mate in my Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric. There’re too many entries in the login drop-down list.

Now I’m going to remove unwanted entries and only keep gnome-shell, unity, mate, and recovery console.

Open up a terminal window, and navigate to /usr/share/xsessions/ by this command:

cd /usr/share/xsessions

then:

ls

There’re several .desktop files and each for one entry in the login drop-down list.

So to remove an entry, just remove/rename the .desktop file. For example, I got the mate desktop, so I’m going to remove gnome-classic by renaming it:

sudo mv gnome-classic.desktop gnome-classic.desktop-backup

or just remove it by:

sudo rm gnome-classic.desktop
