The popular way to hide files or folders in Ubuntu is to rename file/folder name to start with ‘.’ dot. Nautilus won’t show any file/folder with the name starting with ‘.’, until press Ctrl+H key combination. This quick tutorial is going to show you how to hide file folder in another way.

1. Create a file called .hidden on the same directory where the files or folders you want to hide are located in.

2. In the .hidden file, write in the files/folders names and save.

3. Next time you open nautilus file browser, files & folders in the list won’t be shown by default. You can press Ctrl+H to show or hide them.

Enjoy!
