Emoji, the little ideograms or smileys, can be displayed in Windows and Mac OS by default. But Ubuntu does not support emoji out of the box in both 14.04 Trusty and 12.04 Precise.

So it’s quite easy to enable Emoji support in Ubuntu based systems. All you need to do is search for and install ttf-ancient-fonts package in Ubuntu Software Center.

install-ancient-fonts

Or install it via terminal command:

sudo apt-get install ttf-ancient-fonts
