We use terminal so frequently since we spend so much time at command line.It seems preferable to launch a new terminal window with a shortcut key.
In ubuntu , there is a built-in utility at System–>Preferences–>Keyboard Shortcuts for distributing shortcut keys.

Open it up and scroll down to find where it says “Run a terminal”,click on it and next keystroke you use will set the shortcut key.Since then you can press the key combination to open up a new terminal window.

Done.
